John Wick: Chapter 4 officially bowed at its London premiere Monday evening, with the online reactions embargo lifting during the event. The fourth installment follows on from the conclusion of John Wick Chapter 3 - Parabellum, which saw Keanu Reeves' notorious assassin fall high above the Continental Hotel after being betrayed by his friend Winston (Ian McShane). Of course, Wick lives. Chapter 4 is the story of the deadly pariah traveling the globe to escape the control of the mysterious, cutthroat High Table. The critically-acclaimed action film has been praised with a hefty amount of enthusiasm in its initial round of responses and has been praised for its impressive bench of sparring partners that comprises Donnie Yen, Hiroyuki Sanada, Marko Zazor, Scott Adkins and Rina Sawayama. Another topic of contention is the length of the film that is a lengthy two hours and 49 minutes -- 38 minutes longer than the previous film's. Los Angeles Times critic Katie Walsh loved the film, praising its visuals as a step above other blockbusters of the franchise. She added the caveat about one element she disliked about the film: Because it's dumb. Collider editor-in-chief Steven Weintraub had nothing but praise for the film, signaling that Reeves is up to some shady things with a dragon's breath shotgun. CinemaBlend reviewer Eric Eisenberg expressed some reservations regarding the film's long runtime. But he states that this film earns it through smart timing and strong elements of the set. John Wick: Chapter 4 director and franchise creator Chad Stahelski explains why he would like to take a break from the series prior to starting work on the next chapter. Stahelski began the career path in Hollywood by working as a stuntman before joining forces with actor Keanu Reeves to make 2014's John Wick. Stahelski was co-directing the film with David Leitch, before solely managing the next three sequels following John Wick was a surprise critical and financial success. While de Armas is taking over the role from Unity Phelan, Reeves, Ian McShane, Lance Reddick, and Anjelica Huston will all reprise their roles from earlier installments in the franchise. Following his efforts on John Wick: Chapter 4 and the other chapters in the franchise, Stahelski is set to apply his directing talents to new realms outside of the thrilling gunplay Reeves' master assassin. in 2021 Stahelski was tapped by the company to create a film adaptation of Ghosts of Tsushima the most popular 2020 PlayStation game in which a samurai defends the isle of Tsushima during the initial Mongol attack on Japan. The director will also make a remake in the Highlander franchise and Stahelski said he was planning his version of the fight between immortals to be an entire trilogy of films. John Wick: Chapter 4 is one of 2023's most eagerly anticipated films of 2023. As such, while there is a possibility of disappointment with the possibility of a break between installments, it is clear Stahelski's reasons could be beneficial for future films.
